Unforgetable Moments: How Do You Correct Them?

Last Friday, after two days of driving and nearly two weeks of taking care of my mother who was recovering from surgery, I walked into my house, saw two cardboard boxes sitting on the floor of the kitchen, and ripped them open.

What did I find? MY BOOKS. Those wonderful tomes I've been waiting to hold in my hand for nearly a year.

Thankfully, I didn't mess up this moment. I didn't trip over the box on the floor, fall on my head, and give myself a concussion. Nor did I accidentally cut some of the covers when I opened the box. Then I got an email from my agent, saying her husband and daughter stayed up reading my book rather than watch a movie.

So even though I messed up my perfect "first viewing of book" moment (see this post for the whole story), I still had a chance to make it right. What about you? Do you ever get to correct those times when you make mistakes or when life doesn't go exactly as you'd planned? I'm grateful for the chance to dive back in and have a second try, and I'd love to hear some of your stories.

Thanks so much to everyone who entered. I'll be doing more giveaways, both here and on other blogs closer to the book's release date.

  1. Glad you didn't get hurt or accidently cut your beautiful new books! I've had many instances when life doesn't go as planned but there is a reason for everything. God always shows us a way for a second chance. I'm so happy to have won your new book! Thanks so very much!

    1. My little boy is one of my biggest supporters. Though a do think he was a little disappointed when he saw the books and the were for grownups, not kids. :)

  5. Now THAT is an expression of joy, if ever I've seen one! =)

My kids both carried a copy of mine around with them for days, LOL. Though, yes, they were disappointed they were for Big People. But my son (4) pretended to read it and declared it to be about Thomas the Train and Bob the Builder (who knew?!) and my daughter, who actually CAN read, was really excited to see her name in the acknowledgments. =)

SO glad you had your golden moment with them! And that you took pictures!!

    1. Oh Roseanna, how cute!!! I love the Thomas the Train and Bob the Builder thing. I tell myself maybe one day I could try to write a kids book for my boys, but the reality is my boys will probably grow up and start liking the adult books before I write a kids book.
